FUNDING

After years of lobbying for an increase in Travel &
Tourism Funding for the State of
Ohio,
the Ohio Division of Travel & Tourism has received a 40% increase in
funding ($5.5 million over two years!) As
a result, the Ohio Division of Travel and Tourism budget will be nearly $9
million in FY 08 and nearly $10 million in FY 09. Furthermore, a new travel and tourism
cooperatives project line item was created and provides travel and tourism with
an additional $350,000 in funding in FY 08 and FY 09. Thank you to everyone who participated in
OH&LA’s legislative day and made phone calls to your legislators, and to
the members of the Ohio Tourism Roundtable (OH&LA, OACVB, ORA, OTA) whose
unified industry support for increased funding made this happen. Also, a special thanks to Senator Randy
Gardner (R-Bowling Green) who introduced the travel and tourism increased
funding amendment to the 2007 biennial budget bill, and to Representative Chris
Redfern (D-Port Clinton), and Senator Steve Stivers (R-Columbus) who strongly
supported the increase.
