What an exciting and fun time to be part of the tourism industry in Ohio. Finally, it seems as though the legislature understands who we are and what we do. When most line items are being cut, it is even more rewarding to see the travel and tourism budget get an increase. Also, on the state-wide level, we have a new director of the Division of Travel and Tourism. This is an opportunity for all of us to take a step back, regroup, and move Ohio forward.
Locally, I have many things to be excited about. Lehmans, our one of a kind hardware store that sells non-electrical essentials to the Amish and those around the world that dont use electricity, has more than doubled the size of their store. P. Graham Dunn, that makes laser engraved wood products, is building a brand new manufacturing facility and showroom. Simply Smuckers, the retail store of the J.M. Smucker Company, is also expanding and adding an educational component to their store. Downtown Wooster is adding a couple restaurants and a brand new library is ready to open.
Sometimes, I am amazed at things that happen! A local stream is being stocked with trout, (I have always told people Wayne County is water deprived) and fly fisherman are flocking to the area to fish. A local garden center with beautiful gardens; rescued, rebuilt and restored an 1800s Wayne County barn that is now a charming event center.
We all have new and different things to share with our visitors. Lets join together and make this a summer both the industry and our visitors will remember.
