A local historian developed a list of 17 sites in Clermont County and our neighboring Brown County that was significant to President Ulysses S. Grant in some aspect of his life. Grant was born in Clermont County and grew up in Brown County. The Grant family history was rich, and we wanted to share their stories as Ulyssess’s Bicentennial birthday was approaching. Our team knew it was important to take this information and turn it into an excellent educational tour for our residents, visitors, group tours, students and more.
Our plan was to develop content and then design a brochure to promote the trails and series of Bicentennial events. The rack card size was selected for easy display at hotels, rest stops, visitor centers, etc. The branding and creatives are well organized with a wonderful mixture of Grant Bicentennial design, but also includes many CVB branding elements, colors, and fonts that all blend together nicely.
The first panel features the Land of Grant Trail and how to download the free mobile tour. It also displays a graphic of the Grant collectable coin that participants will receive if they check in to all 17 stops along the trail.
Inside panels highlight a series of Bicentennial events that took place in the month of April throughout Clermont County and Brown County. These panels were important to share event information but also point people to our website for additional information and purchase event tickets.
The panels of this brochure open to highlight each location on the trail. This highlights the site name, address, and a small description about the location and its significance to Grant. The center design presents a visually appealing map for visitors to better understand an easy traffic pattern. The site numbers and map are also in chronological order of Grant’s time in Clermont County and Brown County.
Our team had a few goals for this printed brochure. The first goal was to educate our residents and visitors. We wanted them to understand Grants powerful contribution to United States history. Inside the brochure we have a strong call to action for people to download the free trail and scan a trackable QR code. This technology is important for us to determine who is downloading the trail and visiting these locations with GPS validation.
We are incredibly pleased with the final production of this piece. 15,000 copies were printed in total, and a digital copy resides on the CVB website. Once printed, we immediately wanted to get the brochure into the hands of our community and visitors. All 15,000 copies were distributed to Clermont County hotels, museums, each applicable location along the trail, Ohio History Connect, travel information centers, popular attractions and more.
Our team was excited to see that this printed brochure was flying off the shelf. We had multiple museums and hotels call asking for additional copies. 445 people scanned the QR code to download the trail. 538 people download the free mobile trail onto their phones. Of those 538 people that downloaded the trail, there has been a total of 793 check-ins. That’s over 793 people that our team has brought to the doorstep of these historical locations and museums. 39 visitors have completed the trail, visited all 17 locations, and were awarded the Grant Bicentennial collectible coin. We see these numbers continue to grow each month and have plans to market around President’s Day and April, which is Grant’s birth month.
